About

Creativeborn is a pseudonym for Abbie Thoms, me. I created this name so that I could remain anonymous while working at my two last jobs, as they were funny about their employees earning money outside of their company. Needless to say I left to pursue my dream as a full time artist and graphic designer (see www.polyspiral.com for the graphics)

I was born creative, not overly clever, but the name Creativeborn suited me and I was happy when I found the domain name was free. My first intention for this website was to sell my works on the Internet, but I soon discovered people want to see art in the flesh before they buy it and more of my art has sold to friends and friends of friends, only one on ebay. So I started exhibiting, my next exhibition will be in the Brick Lane Art Gallery in London. I was thrilled to be asked to be part in the Art in Mind show, from the 24th May to 6th June 2011.

I very much enjoy painting, I believe everyone has the right to be happy in whatever job they choose. I love think acrylic paint, vivid colours and letting my self go with a brush, sometimes fingers, splashing it everywhere, the best place for this is in the garden, so don’t be surprised if you see a lawn in Suffolk that is all colours of the rainbow. The letting it dry to paste more on. I enjoy playing with very watery acrylics as well as in Lobotomy in Acrylics so called because it dawned on me one day that , that is what my art is, bits of me, my brain, subconscious things being allowed to run riot on a canvas. Everyone seems to see something different my my work. My friend Liz see some one's toes in the last painting I mentioned, where as someone else sees a flower. I find that so rewarding, when people see things I haven't meant to be there, it ads a whole new exciting dimension to my work.

I started drawing as soon as I could hold a ball point pen or ‘biro’ as people here in the UK are so fond of saying, my first words were ‘paper, biwo’. My mum tells me I was five months old when I first drew, bless her, I think she maybe a bit biased, apparently I never scribbled, I find that hard to believe to knowing how destructive I was with the bedroom wallpaper and letting the wax crayons melt down the side of the radiator between my bed.

Please make what you will of my work, I don’t expect anyone to be extremely impressed by my paintings. For me the process is enjoyable enough and its such a bonus if my work is liked especially even bought by people.

I got into photography when I became disillusioned with my digital camera and nostalgic for my uni days when I could get decent close up shots of subjects like the cat when manually focusing and setting the light metre on the old uni cameras. I guess I’m a bit of a control freak and I always like to keep my options open, with film you always have the ability to blow up your images larger to a limit that is grossly more than most affordable digital cameras. I’m also pretty good at dropping things, so a heavy £500 digital camera would be financial suicide. You can buy a Nikon FE or EM for about £30 on eBay and their normally pretty good, I have both. I love taking pictures on nature as its so diverse, colourful and varied textures. But I also like to document man made things. I am fascinated by old photographs, my Granny left us with some that are over one hundred years old and I think it would be a wonderful thing if pictures we take now people would find not just interesting but historically useful to, so look after those old snaps!
