I got into photography when I became disillusioned with my digital camera and nostalgic for my uni days when I could get decent close up shots of subjects like the cat when manually focusing and setting the light metre on the old uni cameras. I guess I’m a bit of a control freak and I always like to keep my options open, with film you always have the ability to blow up your images larger to a limit that is grossly more than most affordable digital cameras. I’m also pretty good at dropping things, so a heavy £500 digital camera would be financial suicide. You can buy a Nikon FE or EM for about £30 on eBay and their normally pretty good, I have both. I love taking pictures on nature as its so diverse, colourful and varied textures. But I also like to document man made things. I am fascinated by old photographs, my Granny left us with some that are over one hundred years old and I think it would be a wonderful thing if pictures we take now people would find not just interesting but historically useful to, so look after those old snaps!
